Getting undergraduate students to be able to read and interpret primary literature is one of the most important goals in science education, especially for training new researchers. Unfortunately, the development of this skill is often quite complex. The use of primary literature is not a single skill but in fact a composite of many individual skills, a single deficiency of which can result in failure to achieve the larger goal. In any organized curriculum, a comprehensive approach should be used to train and assess the individual skills that make up this composite to ensure success of the larger whole. In this workshop, Justin Fendos will discuss the methods he use to achieve these goals, with specific suggestions for the Tan School ( http://tsi.fudan.edu.cn/ ) AIBS program.
